We hope you have a wonderful stay in Austin over the next several days! To help you get oriented and make the most of your time here, we’ve put together a few resources with local tips and dining recommendations: Austin Resources.
Please take a moment to review the safety guidelines to ensure we are following building policies and keeping everyone safe during PD. Additionally, be sure to complete the steps below to help you get fully prepared for the start of PD.
Getting PD Ready:
- Set- up your computer: You will use your computer throughout professional development, and you will need to connect to the University’s wifi network. Select the “utguest” network to connect.
- Get Slack: Slack is used during PD (in your specific PD channel) and throughout the school year (in the general channel) to communicate with instructors and other teachers implementing the curriculum.
- Join the EYW: Design Slack workspace
- Go to engineeryourworld.slack.com
- Enter your email address and click “Verify email”
- Go to your inbox, confirm your email address, and agree to the terms of service
- You should have access to multiple channels, including one for your specific PD session
- Don’t invite anyone to the channels; that has already been done
- Sign-in to Canvas: Canvas is the EYW homebase and is used to access the curriculum.
- Go to engineeryourworld.instructure.com
- Login using the email you provided at the time of registration and the password “engineer” (case-sensitive). [Note: you can also access Canvas through your email account. Find the email from Engineer Your World with the subject “Course Invitation”.]
- Click on the “accept” invitation button; you should see the 2026 course icon
- Complete the following in Canvas:
- Find the spreadsheet that lists all the supplies you need for this course
- Find the software downloads
- (Optional) Download the Canvas Student app for your phone/tablet and login (network = UTeachEngineering)
- Download the Google Drive app for your phone and tablet.
- Add Social Media (optional): We’d love for you/your school to interact with us on social media. If you post about PD or your students’ work throughout the year, please mention us (@EngrYourWorld)!
- If you finish early, please help the others at your table. Thank you!
Other Reminders:
- Complete the New Teacher Pre-Survey sent to you via email (if you have not already done so).
- Order/Review equipment for the school year, as needed (if you have not already done so): The most up-to-date equipment lists and information about how to purchase equipment can be found at engineeryourworld.org/resources (password: EYW#1utatx).
